Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Thadus McDoogle! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Perseu Santiago! The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Josh West and Paul Gruel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Santiago misses with a two punch combination.
McDoogle blocks a head kick by Santiago.
Santiago has managed to clinch.
McDoogle wants a takedown.
Santiago is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Santiago is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables McDoogle to keep the fight standing. Santiago can't get the takedown.
Santiago has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. McDoogle is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Thadus McDoogle has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Perseu Santiago. Santiago is looking for a takedown. Santiago stops a takedown attempt from McDoogle.
Santiago tries to pull guard but McDoogle holds him up against the cage and eventually Santiago drops back down to his feet.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. McDoogle looking to pass the guard. McDoogle distracts Santiago with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
That's one minute gone in the round. McDoogle stands up from guard. Let's bang! McDoogle circles away from the clinch attempt.
Santiago tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Santiago fails with an attempt to clinch.
Santiago gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Santiago manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Santiago wants to take the fight to the mat but McDoogle manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. McDoogle looking for a takedown. McDoogle trying to control the position but instead, Santiago has worked for underhooks and has pushed McDoogle into the cage. Santiago tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. McDoogle just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McDoogle gets control of Santiago's arms and successfully pulls guard. McDoogle will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. McDoogle has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. McDoogle has control of Santiago's left arm, preventing Santiago from doing any damage. McDoogle uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Santiago closes the distance but McDoogle moves to the side and McDoogle counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Santiago's guard now. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! McDoogle is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. McDoogle trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Santiago is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and McDoogle dives into side control.
McDoogle has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Santiago has McDoogle up against the cage in a clinch.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows. Santiago jumps guard but McDoogle turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. McDoogle is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Santiago to keep the fight standing. McDoogle tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Santiago just stands there and leans against the cage. McDoogle pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Santiago pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Santiago wants to clinch and McDoogle counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by McDoogle. Santiago looking to hit a scissor sweep but McDoogle is one step ahead there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McDoogle distracts Santiago with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Santiago can do anything to dispel that myth. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! McDoogle postures up and lands a big shot to Santiago's brow. McDoogle trying to control the position from guard on top but Santiago is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. McDoogle keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Santiago's head. McDoogle stops Santiago from standing up. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! McDoogle trying to control but Santiago is working from the bottom. Santiago wants to control but McDoogle passes easily into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Santiago avoids a kick to the body.
McDoogle tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Santiago swivels and escapes. Santiago tries to clinch but McDoogle moves out of range. Thadus McDoogle is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. McDoogle doesn't manage to clinch there - Santiago circles away.
McDoogle tries to land a leg kick but Santiago saw it coming and moves away.
McDoogle is looking to clinch. Santiago tries to clinch but fails miserably and McDoogle counters with a left and a right that stings Santiago. Santiago closes the distance but McDoogle moves to the side and McDoogle counters with a single leg into guard. Santiago didn't expect that. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Santiago has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but McDoogle has passed into side control.
McDoogle decides to stand back up. McDoogle steps back and let's Santiago get back to his feet. Santiago is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Santiago looks to clinch and McDoogle makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Perseu Santiago is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. McDoogle throws a nice looking combination but Santiago bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Santiago is looking to clinch. Santiago wants to clinch and McDoogle counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. McDoogle slips nicely into half guard. McDoogle wants to pass the guard but Santiago is defending well. Santiago is refusing to be controlled, as McDoogle sits in half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Santiago keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. McDoogle is looking to advance position but Santiago won't allow it. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. McDoogle uses his free foot to push down on Santiago's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Santiago. Santiago is trying desperately to improve position. McDoogle is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! McDoogle extends the arm and Santiago is forced to tap!
