Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Osaki Kenji! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Goa Goa! The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Shigeki Fujiwara and Shirou Masuda.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Goa gets the takedown into side control. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Kenji is looking for a sweep. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kenji gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Kenji blocking the ground and pound attempt from Goa. Goa prevents Kenji from improving his position. Kenji looking for submissions off his back. Kenji wants to improve his position but Goa is controlling well.
Goa throwing shots but Kenji is blocking nicely. Goa working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Goa lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. That's one minute gone in the round. Kenji is trying to get back to full guard. Goa thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kenji's head. Goa scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Kenji wants to get back to full guard but Goa has passed into side control. Kenji sneaks back into half guard. Kenji is trying to get back to full guard. Goa thows a huge punch but Kenji dodges it nicely.
Goa looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Goa winds up and cracks Kenji with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Kenji on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Kenji has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Goa is working away from the top position though. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Goa scoring with strikes to the body and head. Kenji wants to get back to his feet. Kenji tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. Kenji on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Goa working some ground and pound from close in. Kenji is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Goa scores with a couple of nice shots.
Kenji is rocked! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kenji looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Oh Kenji is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Kenji gets back to full guard.
Goa lands a couple of digs. Goa postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Kenji covers up, he's hurt! Goa keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Goa and the ref steps in to end the fight! Goa can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Goa Goa! After the fight, Goa Goa was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
