PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brock Lesnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Jairo Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lesnar comes to the cage accompanied by Theme Song. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Jairo Velasquez!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Wesley Smith and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velasquez scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Velasquez cracks Lesnar with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Lesnar slips a jab and a cross from Velasquez.
A punch lands to the side of Lesnar 's head but he takes it in his stride.

It looks like Brock Lesnar has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Lesnar has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Velasquez finds it's way round the side to connect with Lesnar's head.
Velasquez throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Lesnar stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Velasquez tries to bum rush Lesnar with a series of wild strikes but Lesnar uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Velasquez throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Lesnar scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Velasquez wants to get back to full guard.

Lesnar seems to be working for a kimura but Velasquez defends the submission attempt.
Velasquez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lesnar. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Lesnar is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Velasquez doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Lesnar.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Velasquez can do anything to dispel that myth.

Lesnar is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Velasquez has managed to free his arm - good work.

Lesnar wants to work for an arm triangle but Velasquez is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Lesnar passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Velasquez!
Velasquez is trying to escape the mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lesnar with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Lesnar content just to control the position here.

Lesnar has hold of Velasquez's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Velasquez manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Jairo Velasquez dominated that round.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Velasquez uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Velasquez sends Lesnar crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Velasquez is motioning to the referee to let Lesnar up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!

Lesnar looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Oh Lesnar is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

and Velasquez counters with a big right hand! Oh Lesnar is in trouble here! Velasquez follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!
