Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rico Garza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Garza comes to the cage accompanied by Run This Town. Thomas has chosen Lets Go as his entrance music. Rico Garza has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rico Garza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jake Thomas!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Thomas drives through with a takedown into Garza's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Thomas looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Garza manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Garza tries to bum rush Thomas with a series of wild strikes but Thomas uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

and Thomas counters with a single leg into guard. Garza didn't expect that.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Garza wants to stand and escape but Thomas is having none of it.

Garza pushes Thomas off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Garza connects with a leg kick. Thomas looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Garza enables Thomas to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Garza manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Thomas decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Garza, up you get!
Garza throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Thomas.

Thomas closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Thomas lands in his opponent's guard.

Garza pushes Thomas off and gets back to his feet.

Garza gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Garza wants to stand but Thomas is controlling the position.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Garza pushes Thomas off and gets back to his feet.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Garza closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Thomas feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Thomas is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Thomas closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Garza breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Thomas shoots in and bounces Garza off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Thomas is looking to work some ground and pound but Garza has wrist control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Garza pushes Thomas off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Garza scoring well with a low kick there.
Garza lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Garza.
Garza will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Thomas closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Garza pushes Thomas off and gets back to his feet.
Rico Garza is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Thomas shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Garza manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Garza is working an open guard so Thomas takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Garza tries to keep at a distance but Thomas has taken the fight into the clinch.

Thomas shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Garza really wants to buck Thomas off and get back to his feet.

Thomas seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Garza is holding on tight.
Garza is bucking up trying to escape but Thomas cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Thomas cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Thomas is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Garza defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Thomas showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Thomas decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Thomas winds up and cracks Garza with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Thomas has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Garza defend it? Thomas steps over the head and cranks it - Garza is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Thomas!
