PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Pierre LePew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phal Um (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pierre LePew!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Phal Um!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Trevor Gratis and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
LePew bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
LePew throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Um feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
LePew tries to land a sweep but no joy.

LePew looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Um passes into half guard.

LePew looking for submissions off his back.
LePew has a hand on Um's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Um takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
LePew is trying to escape the mount.
Um tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Let's hope that Um has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Um controlling from the full mount.
LePew is wriggling around trying to escape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Um content just to control the position here.
LePew is desperately trying to improve his position but Um has a good base and remains in mount.
Um controlling the pace for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Um's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
LePew is looking to get to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Um raining down shots from the mount!
Um wants to control the pace but LePew is squirming around nicely.
LePew is trying to escape the mount.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phal Um dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Um wants to clinch.
LePew pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Pierre LePew is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Um takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
LePew throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Um sees it coming and avoids it easily.
LePew with a poor takedown

and Um counters with a shoot takedown. LePew fights it but they end up in guard.

Um avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Um gets to his feet. LePew looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Um is looking to clinch but LePew is avoiding it.
Um misses the jab.
LePew keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Um drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

LePew isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Um stacks LePew on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Um!

LePew manages to work his way to half guard, despite Um's best efforts.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

LePew slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Um is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Um content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
LePew is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Um is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phal Um showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


LePew throws a hook but Um blocks it.
Um lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Um fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
LePew throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Um thows a body shot but no joy.
LePew takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Um connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Um paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Um fails with the takedown

and LePew counters with a takedown into side control.

LePew in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Um is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:02 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Pierre LePew!
