Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Kirby! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kip Epps! The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, John Mangel and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kirby misses with a lunging right hand
letting Epps counter with a right hand. Kirby takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Kirby lands a nice shot to the body.
John Kirby seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kirby connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Kirby misses the shot to the body. Epps throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Kirby connects with a good right hand that stumbles Epps. Epps circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Kirby uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Epps. Kirby throws out a loose jab but Epps uses good head movement to avoid it. Epps takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Kirby throws a leg kick but Epps sees it coming and moves out of range. Epps tries to clinch up but Kirby circles away and keeps his distance. Kirby looks to score with a jab to the body but Epps is just out of range. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Epps fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kirby manages to avoid it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Epps throws a lazy uppercut
and Kirby counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Epps lands a lovely overhand right. Epps takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Epps lands with an uppercut that bounces Kirby off the cage and back into range. Kirby lands with a hook. Epps tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Epps takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Kirby lands with a nice body punch. Kirby blocks a jab. Epps throws an off balance right hand
and Kirby counters with a stiff right hand. Kirby swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Epps. This has been an exciting period of action! Epps misses with a hook to the body
enabling Kirby to counter with a crisp jab. Kirby avoids a punch combination nicely.
Kirby slips a straight right by Epps.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kirby getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Epps lands with a hook. Kirby tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Epps takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Epps walks into a stiff left hand from Kirby.
Epps is rocked! Kirby throws a monster overhand right that drops Epps! Kirby follows up with more strikes from mount and the fight is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Kirby!
