PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Perala (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kyoto Machine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Perala's entrance music is Pantera - Cowboys From Hell. A fine choice. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Perala!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kyoto Machine!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Matti Vanhoillinen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perala fails with an attempt to clinch.

Perala has taken the fight to the clinch.
Machine drops down looking for an ankle pick but Perala pulls his leg out and moves away.
Machine throws the left hand but Perala avoids the punch easily.
John Perala seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
No luck for Perala with that takedown attempt.

and Perala counters with a shoot takedown. Machine fights it but they end up in guard.
Perala working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Perala is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Machine looking for a guillotine here but Perala defends easily.

Perala gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Perala tries to clinch but Machine moves out of range.
Perala doesn't manage to clinch there - Machine circles away.
Perala takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Perala closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Perala stands up and beckons Machine to join him on the feet.
Perala showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Machine.
Perala lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Machine takes a jab right on the kisser.

and Machine counters with a shoot takedown. Perala fights it but they end up in guard.
Machine has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Perala is proving hard to escape from.
Machine is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Machine drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Perala manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Machine has Perala in his guard.

Perala stands up and beckons Machine to his feet.
Perala tries for a takedown but Machine sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Machine circles away from the clinch attempt.
Perala tests Machine's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Perala fails with an attempt to clinch.

and Machine takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Perala is looking to clinch but Machine is avoiding it.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Perala crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Machine - the referee stops the clock and Perala gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Machine. Perala manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Machine closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Machine lands in his opponent's guard.
Machine wants to pass the guard but Perala is keeping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Machine gets the takedown into side control.
Perala is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Machine has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Machine tries for a kimura but Perala is defending well.
Perala is trying to get back to half guard.
Perala wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Perala can't do much from the bottom here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Perala drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Machine tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Perala wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Machine is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Machine is trying to work for a sweep but Perala has mounted him!

Machine is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Machine is desperately trying to improve his position but Perala has a good base and remains in mount.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Perala looking to control but Machine is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Machine is looking to get to half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

and Perala counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Machine's guard now.
Perala is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Perala wants to stand but Machine has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Machine is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Machine looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Perala puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Machine is looking for a sweep. Perala is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Machine is trying to stand up here but Perala is controlling him well.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

John Perala has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kyoto Machine.

Perala drops back, looking for a kneebar! Machine looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Machine looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Machine!

Machine wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Perala, who protects the arm well.

Machine is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Perala is trying to escape and Machine transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Perala is forced to tap! Nice work there by Machine! Very nice indeed!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:42 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Kyoto Machine!
