PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Action Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Kermodian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kermodian comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Arctic Monkeys - Mardy Bum kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Action Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 22 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Mark Kermodian!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Yves DeLean and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kermodian throws a right and a left that both miss.
Jackson scores with a nice head shot.
Jackson walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Mark Kermodian seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jackson throws a hook but Kermodian blocks it.

Kermodian shoots in and gets a takedown into Jackson's guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Kermodian is pushing down on Jackson's leg trying to pass to half guard. Jackson is fighting to maintain full guard but Kermodian has managed to sneak the leg through.

It looks like Kermodian might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Jackson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kermodian on the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Mark Kermodian hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Jackson throws a jab when Kermodian was well out of range.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Kermodian closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kermodian lands in his opponent's guard.
Kermodian is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jackson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Jackson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Jackson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kermodian gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Kermodian is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Mark Kermodian wasn't active enough on the ground.
Kermodian uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Jackson.
Jackson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kermodian avoids it really well and circles away.

Jackson tries to stall but Kermodian uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Kermodian turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Kermodian manages to end up in side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Kermodian connects with a leg kick. Jackson looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Jackson connects with a jab.
Jackson ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Jackson misses with an uppercut. Kermodian saw that one coming.
Kermodian connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Kermodian gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Jackson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Kermodian smiles and moves away.
Kermodian throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kermodian pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Good leg kick by Kermodian there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
A nice inside leg kick there by Kermodian. That's going to slow Jackson down.

Kermodian shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Jackson is bucking up trying to escape but Kermodian cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Jackson keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Kermodian breaks from Jackson's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Kermodian takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
