Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, CJ Smith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chevney Caarcoal! The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Damien Edna and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Caarcoal dives in and scores a takedown into Smith's guard. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Smith has his foot on Caarcoal's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Caarcoal works his way back into a safe position though. Smith escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Caarcoal gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Caarcoal avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Caarcoal must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Caarcoal slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Smith working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Caarcoal doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Caarcoal manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Caarcoal got a little sloppy there for a moment and Smith has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Caarcoal has managed to get both his arms back between Smith's legs - danger averted. Caarcoal is looking to work some ground and pound but Smith has wrist control. Smith wants to sweep here but Caarcoal controlling him for the moment. Smith working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Caarcoal doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Caarcoal manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith tries to land a sweep but no joy. Smith isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Caarcoal stacks Smith on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Caarcoal! Caarcoal is working Smith over with some ground and pound from side control. Caarcoal is looking to take a break and control but Smith is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Smith is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Caarcoal's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Smith is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Caarcoal pulls his head out easily. Caarcoal seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Caarcoal wants to free his trapped foot but Smith is holding on for dear life with his legs. Smith sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Smith looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Smith regains full guard. Nicely done. Smith is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Caarcoal is aware though and is defending well. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Smith has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Caarcoal should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Smith has tightened it up now! Caarcoal should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
