PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Hector Barbosa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patricio Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Patricio Silva told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Patricio Silva!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Chris Saunders and Micheangelo Fripello.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barbosa thuds his shin into the meat of Silva's side.

Barbosa drives through and clinches with Silva against the cage.
Silva is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Silva blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Barbosa gets underhooks to prevent Silva's takedown attempt.
Barbosa throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Silva blocks it with crossed arms.

Silva drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Barbosa gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Silva throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Silva tries to bum rush Barbosa with a series of wild strikes but Barbosa uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Silva avoids a kick to the body.
Silva throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Silva lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Barbosa circles away quickly and effectively.
Silva avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Silva takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Silva goes for a takedown attempt but Barbosa pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Silva gets caught flat footed, as Barbosa shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Silva working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Barbosa doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Barbosa manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Silva has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Barbosa should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Silva has tightened it up now! Barbosa should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
