Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Billy Bob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dean Pope (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dean Pope told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Billy Bob! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dean Pope! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pope drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bob is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Bob is trying to get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pope is trying to get an arm triangle but Bob is defending well. Bob is looking to reverse the position. Bob regains half guard. Pope wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bob keeps working. Bob tries to roll over but Pope keeps him under control. Bob kicks Pope off and gets back to his feet. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Pope avoids a punch combination nicely.
Pope shoots in for a double leg but Bob sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Pope shoots for a double leg takedown but Bob sprawls well. He's pushed Pope's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Pope fails with a takedown attempt. Billy Bob has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dean Pope.

so Pope counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Bob is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Bob wants to stand but Pope is controlling the position. Pope working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Pope stops Bob from standing up. Pope thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Pope postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Pope trying to control but Bob is working from the bottom. Pope tries to stand but Bob is controlling from the bottom. Pope looks gassed! Bob throws a couple of heel strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pope trying to control the position from guard on top but Bob is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Bob wants to stand but Pope is controlling the position. Bob manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Pope manages to get himself to full guard.
Pope is looking for a triangle but Bob pushes his legs off easily.
Bob stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pope swivels though and keeps the full guard. Bob content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Pope looking for a guillotine here but Bob defends easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Bob has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Pope is proving hard to escape from. Pope throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bob stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pope swivels though and keeps the full guard. Pope throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Bob makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Bob has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. That's four minutes gone in the round. Pope fails to land the takedown. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Bob throws a series of strikes that have Pope backpedaling.
Bob keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Bob tries to bum rush Pope with a series of wild strikes but Pope uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Bob lands a lovely overhand right. Pope with a lazy takedown attempt and Bob counters with a two punch combo.

Bob feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Pope sprawling to the canvas! Pope rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Bob finish him?!
Bob lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Pope circles away quickly and effectively. Sloppy strikes from Bob. Those never looked like landing. Bob lunges in with a left hook that violently twists Pope head around and knocks him out cold! Bob hops onto the cage and yells out at the top of his lungs - Yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaah! They're showing the replay on the big screens now; that was nasty! I hope one of the photographers got a good shot of it.
