Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nick Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thiago Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thiago Alves is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nick Diaz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Thiago Alves! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Taro Takaoka and Yukihiro Yamamoto.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diaz shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Alves counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Alves slows the pace down in half guard. Alves is working for a kimura but Diaz is defending it quite comfortably.

That's one minute gone in the round. Alves content to control rather than advance. Diaz looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Alves controlling the action here. Alves is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Diaz is pressing down on Alves's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Diaz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Alves defends it easily. Diaz throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Diaz wants to sweep here but Alves controlling him for the moment. Diaz is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Alves is aware though and is defending well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Alves content to stall in guard here. Diaz looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Alves passes into side control.
Alves landing a few strikes. Diaz gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Diaz tries to get to full guard but Alves has control of the leg.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Diaz actively working from the bottom here. Alves tries to stand and escape but Diaz actually recovers to full guard. Diaz is trying to keep Alves in close.
Alves is stalling in the full guard. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Diaz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Alves doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Alves manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Nick Diaz will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Alves tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Diaz manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Diaz gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Alves moves into the clinch. Alves manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Diaz stands and throws Alves's legs to the side, diving into side control. An elbow from Diaz crashes against the mat.
Alves gets back to half guard. Alves moves into full guard.
Diaz drops back, looking for a kneebar! Alves looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Alves looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Alves!
That's one minute gone in the round. Alves stands up and we're back to a striking position. Diaz tries for a takedown but Alves circles away easily so Alves counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Diaz is looking for a triangle but Alves pushes his legs off easily.
Alves wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Diaz's closed guard. He's half up but Diaz has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Diaz pivots and extends the arm, Alves falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Diaz! Well done that man!
