Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Niko Belich! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Georges Pierre ! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Felipe Paraventi and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pierre connects with a body shot. Belich defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Pierre . Belich misses with a two punch combination.
Belich tries to bum rush Pierre with a series of wild strikes but Pierre uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Pierre avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Pierre throws a body punch but Belich moves out of range. A shot to the liver by Belich. Beautiful body shot. Pierre looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Belich just misses with a punch to the body.
Pierre is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Pierre drops his hands momentarily and Belich takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Belich lands with a right hand. Pierre clinches up with Belich and pushes him back against the cage. Pierre keeps control of Belich as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Pierre pulls guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pierre is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Belich defends well. Pierre wants to sweep but no luck. Belich wants to control from the top but Pierre keeps moving. Pierre escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Belich gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Pierre is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Belich gets to his feet. Pierre looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pierre looks to score with a jab to the body but Belich is just out of range. Pierre throws a head kick that misses. Pierre misses with a takedown attempt - Belich sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Niko Belich has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Georges Pierre . Belich connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Pierre momentarily.
Belich misses with a wild combination.
Belich throws a body punch but Pierre moves out of range. Pierre closes this distance looking for a takedown but Belich circles away. Belich lands with a right hand. Belich throws a series of punches but Pierre avoids them all with ease. Pierre fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Pierre looks gassed!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pierre avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Belich lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Belich. Belich wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Belich lands a jab to Pierre 's midsection. Belich lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Good shot there by Belich. Belich scores with a jab to the body. The fighters circle momentarily. Belich darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Pierre slips under a jab. Belich looks to land a combination but Pierre avoids it well. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Belich connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pierre fails with an attempt to clinch.
Pierre has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Belich finds it's way round the side to connect with Pierre 's head. Belich lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Pierre moves in looking to clinch but Belich pushes him off. No joy there for Belich, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Belich lands a really nice looking cross but Pierre seems unphased.
Pierre shoots in for a takedown but Belich shows good takedown defense. Pierre tries to move into range but Belich moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Pierre is rocked! Pierre misses with a series of wild punches.
Pierre gets caught by a brutal right hook which buckles his knees! Pierre tries to backpedal with his spaghettilegs but Belich is headhunting and goes for the kill. A jab and a right hook connect and Pierre buckles badly as his eyes roll back. The referee steps in and saves Pierre !! Pierre is complaining but he was clearly out on his feet. Belich throws his mouthpiece into the crowd. Mmmm spit-tastic.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Niko Belich!
