Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rictras Shard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shard comes to the cage accompanied by Mari-Mac by Great Big Sea. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rictras Shard! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Steve Brown! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Yves DeLean and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shard is trying hard to land a takedown here. Brown sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Shard drives through with a takedown into guard. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Brown holds on and takes a little breather. Brown can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Shard controls the pace.
Rictras Shard has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Shard moves into range and clinches up with Brown. Shard has hold of one of Brown's legs. Brown is fighting the takedown attempt but Shard gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Shard trying to control the position from guard on top but Brown is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's one minute gone in the round. Brown trying to control the position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Shard has gone for a leg lock! Brown slips out almost immediately though and dives into Shard's guard. Shard bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Brown's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shard wants to pass the guard but Brown is keeping the position. Shard advances position into side control! Shard tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Shard controlling the position from side mount. Shard seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Brown for as long as he can get away with.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shard working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Shard is looking to take a break and control but Brown is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Brown holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage. Shard goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Brown has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Shard but great work by Brown. Brown is looking to take a break and control but Shard is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shard wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land. Brown working away. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Shard tries to bench press Brown off him but Brown keeps the position. Shard managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Brown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rictras Shard dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Shard shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Brown napping and manages to drive through into side control! Brown is trying to get back to half guard. Shard controlling the position from side mount. Shard working away. Shard trying to control the position but Brown is working away. Brown struggling a bit here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Brown is not content to let Shard control the position. Brown tries to improve position but can't. Brown struggling a bit here.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Shard gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Shard pulls guard successfully.
Shard working a defensive guard but Brown manages to pass into side control anyway.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shard manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Shard keeping control of the position. Shard is looking for a sweep. Brown is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Brown trying to control the action but Shard is working from the bottom. Shard is trying to maintain the position but Brown is very close to passing his half guard. Rictras Shard overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shard keeping hold of Brown's head, controlling as best he can. Brown really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shard. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Rictras Shard has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Shard fails to land the takedown. Shard slips a jab from Brown. Brown takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Shard ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Brown fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Shard looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Brown misses with a body shot.
Nice cross by Brown. Rictras Shard is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Shard closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Brown quickly recovers to half guard. Shard trying to control the action but Brown is working from the bottom. Brown trying to hold on to Shard's head to control him but Shard postures up.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Shard is looking to advance position but Brown won't allow it. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rictras Shard dominated that second round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
No joy there for Brown, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Shard shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Brown as he avoids it easily. Brown displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Shard. Brown connects with the punch. Brown scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. A big right from Brown misses. Brown misses the shot to the body. Shard fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rictras Shard. That's going to take a lot out of him. Shard tries to clinch there but Brown circles away.
Brown cracks a nice hook into Shard's ribs.
That's one minute gone in the round. Brown scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Shard stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Brown. Brown lands a head shot. Shard takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Brown throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A shot to the liver by Brown. Beautiful body shot. Brown lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
This has been an exciting period of action! Shard misses with a takedown and Brown counters with a lovely shot to the body. Shard's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Brown connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Shard scrambles back to his feet. Brown lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Brown ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Brown scores with a nice right hand.
The crowd cheers as Brown lands an impressive looking overhand right. Shard doesn't seem phased though.
Shard is rocked! Steve Brown is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Shard fails with the takedown and Brown counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Oh Shard is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Brown cracks Shard with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Shard seems to have got his legs back now. Steve Brown seems to be getting the better of the standup. Shard takes a shot right to the bread basket. Brown punishes Shard's body with a nice straight punch. Brown lands a jab to Shard's midsection. Brown slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Brown tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Shard is able to avoid easily. Shard looks for a takedown but Brown sprawls well. Brown throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Brown throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Brown takes a swing at Shard's ribcage but misses. Shard throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Brown tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Shard is in Brown's guard. Brown is pulling down on Shard's head. It's preventing any offense from Shard, at least for the moment. Shard wants to control from the top but Brown keeps moving. Rictras Shard is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
That's four minutes gone in the round. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Brown not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Shard moves out of range of the strikes. Shard keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Brown. Good shot there by Brown. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! A telegraphed takedown attempt from Shard is defended easily by Brown. Steve Brown has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Brown throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
And that's the end of the fight! Steve Brown comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Shard has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In favor of your winner, by unanimous decision... Rictras Shard! A relieved looking Rictras Shard thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
