PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Esteban Vega (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Song Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vega comes to the cage accompanied by Dead N Gone. Song Lee told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Song Lee!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Trevor Gratis and Steve Smith.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vega ducks under a wild hook from Lee.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Lee.
Vega moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Lee ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Vega moves away.
Lee shoots in looking for a takedown. Vega tries to sprawl out of it but Lee keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Vega manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
The crowd cheers as Lee lands an impressive looking overhand right. Vega doesn't seem phased though.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Lee.

Vega buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Song Lee seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lee throws a head kick that misses
and Vega counters with a right hand to the body.
Vega tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lee swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Lee shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Vega but Vega pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Esteban Vega has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Song Lee.

A looping hook to the body misses from Vega. Lee does a little dance to reset his feet.
Vega tries to close the distance and clinch but Lee swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Vega ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Lee moves away.
Vega will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Vega doesn't manage to clinch there - Lee circles away.

Vega throws a leg kick that is checked
and Lee counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Vega leaves Lee with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Lee stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vega swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vega not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lee accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Lee is in close to Vega's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Vega is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Lee might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Vega kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Lee has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Lee connects with a good right hand that stumbles Vega. Vega circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Lee lands a nice hook to Vega's body. Vega takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Lee throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Vega.

Vega fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Lee looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Vega lands a jab.
Vega throws a shot from downtown. Lee moves away and avoids it.
Vega will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Vega shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Vega dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Lee loads up on a big right hand but Vega slips the punch.

Lee is looking for a triangle here but Vega uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Esteban Vega has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Lee sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Lee tries to get to full guard but Vega has control of the leg.

Vega wants to stand up but Lee is controlling the position.
Song Lee is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

I would just about give that final round to Song Lee.
I've got Lee winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
