PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kyle Scissors (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Henderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Scissors comes to the cage accompanied by Paper Cut - Linkin Park. Kyle Scissors had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kyle Scissors!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dan Henderson!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Tiny Johnson and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Henderson drives through and clinches with Scissors against the cage.
Scissors drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Henderson gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Henderson wants the takedown. Scissors is fighting it off but Henderson persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Scissors's guard against the cage.
Henderson looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Henderson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Scissors is proving hard to escape from.

Scissors wants to sweep here but Henderson controlling him for the moment.

Scissors is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Henderson is looking to stand up but Scissors won't let him.
Henderson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Scissors. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Henderson is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Henderson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Scissors but Scissors pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Scissors changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Henderson tries to avoid it but Scissors manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Henderson to the ground. Henderson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Scissors tries to clinch but Henderson moves out of range.

Henderson is trying to escape the mount.
The referee warns Henderson that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Henderson is wriggling around trying to escape.
Scissors throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Henderson can't escape the position.

Scissors has control of Henderson's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Henderson regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Scissors is breathing heavily.

Henderson is working to get back to half guard.
Henderson wants to control but Scissors is having none of it.
Scissors wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Henderson tries to hold on but Scissors postures up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Scissors tries to control but Henderson wriggling away.
Henderson is wriggling around trying to escape.
Scissors scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Henderson manages to control the position for a moment.
Henderson is looking to get to half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kyle Scissors will probably get the nod.

Scissors gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Scissors stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Henderson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Henderson is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Henderson is looking to stand up but Scissors isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Scissors keeps the fight on the outside.
Henderson fails with an attempt to clinch.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Henderson.
Scissors tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Henderson moves into the clinch successfully.

Henderson works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Scissors tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Henderson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Henderson wanted to stand there but Scissors had control of the position.
Henderson controls from within his opponent's guard.

Henderson with a flurry of punches that miss.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Let's hope that Henderson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Scissors is working an open guard so Henderson takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Scissors is in trouble now - Henderson has advanced to mount!
Scissors is trying to escape the mount.
Henderson controlling the pace for now.

Dan Henderson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Henderson is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Scissors can't fight it off and eventually Henderson manages to take the fight to the floor. Scissors looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Henderson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Scissors keeping moving, preventing Henderson from controlling successfully.
Scissors wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Scissors is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Henderson is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

I think Henderson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
