Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kel Varnsen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Davis has chosen House of Pain - Jump Around as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Kel Varnsen has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kel Varnsen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marcus Davis! The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Donatello Bradman and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Davis throws a low kick but Varnsen avoids it. Varnsen could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Davis tried to score with a low kick but Varnsen checks it. Davis shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Varnsen's guard. Davis thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Varnsen looking to hit a scissor sweep but Davis is one step ahead there. Davis drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Varnsen dives on top into guard. Davis can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Varnsen controls the pace. Davis looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Varnsen has picked Davis up and slammed him! Davis can't keep hold of the triangle and Varnsen manages to pass to side control! Davis is trying to improve his position. Varnsen cracks Davis with a big right hand but Davis just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

That's one minute gone in the round. Varnsen wants to control but Davis is keeping him busy. Davis is looking for a sweep. Varnsen is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Davis's shoulder. That is not cool. Davis tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Varnsen wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Davis is trying to control Varnsen's posture but Varnsen avoids it. Varnsen is chipping away with strikes.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Davis manages to get back to half guard. Varnsen keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Davis looking for submissions off his back. Well, if Varnsen is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Varnsen tries to pass the half guard into mount. Davis knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Davis looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Davis gets full guard. Davis is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Varnsen defends well. Varnsen has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Varnsen postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Varnsen tries to free his leg and advance position but Davis is retaining full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Davis is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Varnsen defends well. Varnsen showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Varnsen wants to control from the top but Davis keeps moving. Varnsen slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Varnsen trying to control but Davis is working from the bottom. Davis working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Varnsen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Varnsen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Varnsen got a little sloppy there for a moment and Davis has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Varnsen has managed to get both his arms back between Davis's legs - danger averted. Davis tries to land a sweep but no joy. Varnsen trying to control the position from guard on top but Davis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Varnsen is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Davis is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. A close round but Marcus Davis will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Davis throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Davis misses with a low kick as Varnsen jumps back. Davis misses with a low kick.
Varnsen checks a leg kick. No luck for Davis with that takedown attempt. Varnsen shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Davis manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Varnsen's corner is telling him to maintain position. Varnsen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Davis swivels though and keeps the full guard. Davis is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Davis is refusing to be controlled, as Varnsen sits in half guard. Varnsen is really struggling to control Davis but he's trying to hold on to the position. Varnsen closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Varnsen controlling the action here. Varnsen is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Varnsen is nestled in close to Davis, controlling him well. Varnsen wants to hold on but Davis pushes him away. Davis with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Varnsen is looking to improve his position.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Kel Varnsen. I think Varnsen has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
