Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dante Hicks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Rogers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dante Hicks could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Jimmy Rogers's chin.

7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jimmy Rogers! The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Chris Saunders and Jeff Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rogers scores with a nice strike.
It looks like Dante Hicks has been cut. Hicks throws a front kick aimed at Rogers's knee but Rogers avoids it well. Rogers throws a hook to the side of Hicks's head but Hicks sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Rogers throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Hicks takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Rogers throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Hicks moves out of range of the body kick from Rogers.

Hicks feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Rogers looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Hicks passes into half guard.
Hicks throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hicks looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Rogers with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hicks is trying to work for a kimura but Rogers is defending well.
Hicks missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Hicks wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rogers keeps working. Rogers is defending against the submission attempts here by Hicks.
Hicks tries to pass the half guard into mount. Rogers knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Hicks has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hicks is looking for a kimura here.
Hicks is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rogers defends it well. Hicks looks to land a strike but Rogers avoids it nicely and regains full guard. Rogers keeping moving, preventing Hicks from controlling successfully. Hicks looking to sit in guard and control but Rogers gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Rogers avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rogers preventing the sweep. Hicks utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Rogers lands a couple of digs. Hicks working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rogers doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rogers manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Hicks throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Rogers chips away with some ground and pound.
Dante Hicks's cut is getting worse. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Rogers stopping the sweep attempt from Hicks. Hicks controls Rogers momentarily but Rogers frees himself. Rogers tries to stand but Hicks is controlling from the bottom. Hicks preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Hicks working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rogers doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rogers manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Rogers stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Hicks has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Rogers manages to get his head free but now Hicks has transitioned to an armbar! Rogers grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Hicks! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!
