Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between John Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Maia! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jay Jackson! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Cecil Peabody and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jackson lands with a hook. Maia tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. A lazy left from Jackson finds it's target. Maia misses with a takedown attempt and Jackson counters with a stiff right hand. Jackson shoots in but no luck this time. Jackson lands a head shot. Jackson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Maia feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Jackson trying to keep a closed guard but Maia is proving a slippery customer.
Maia stopping the sweep attempt from Jackson. Maia looking to pass the guard. Maia works a leg free and moves into half guard. Maia uses his free foot to push down on Jackson's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Jackson.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maia with the ground and pound from mount. Jackson tries to reverse the position but Maia maintains control. Jackson holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Maia tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Jackson tries to lock up and control but Maia gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Jackson tries to get back to half guard but can't. Maia working Jackson over with strikes here. Jackson is in all sorts of trouble here.
Maia will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Maia has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Maia avoids the attempt from Jackson to control. Maia raining down shots from the mount! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jackson is trying to escape the mount but Maia keeps good control and instead manages to take Jackson's back.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Maia looking for the choke from the back. This has been an exciting period of action! Jackson trying to control the hands but Maia breaks the grip. Jackson defends a prolonged rear naked choke attempt and turns nicely into his opponent's guard. Maia wants to sweep but no luck. Maia utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Jackson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Jackson is in close to Maia's body, working some short punches and elbows. Jackson is looking to stand up but Maia won't let him. Jackson won't allow Maia to sweep him here. Maia manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jackson manages to get himself to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Jackson keeping full guard, as Maia tries to pass. Maia postures up.
Maia advances position into side control! Jackson is looking for a sweep. Jackson looks gassed! Maia is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jackson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Maia lands a few punches from side control. Jackson is working to avoid the ground and pound but Maia connects with a decent elbow. Jackson is trying to get back to his feet. Maia works to advance to full mount. Jackson defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Maia working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Jackson looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Maia! Submission of the night perhaps?
