Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dave Batista!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bob Sapp!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sapp misses with a head kick.
Sapp tries to close the distance and clinch up but Batista swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Bob Sapp seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Batista avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Batista gets a double leg takedown into Sapp's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Batista keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Sapp's head.
Batista throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sapp works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Batista is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Batista drops back looking for a leg! Sapp is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sapp manages to kick Batista off! Batista jumps back into Sapp's guard.

Batista postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Sapp is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Batista, into his guard.
Sapp must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Batista controls Sapp momentarily but Sapp frees himself.

Sapp wanted to stand there but Batista had control of the position.

Batista pushes Sapp off and gets back to his feet.

Batista clinches up against the cage.

Batista escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Batista works Sapp's body with a nice hook.
Horrible takedown by Batista or perhaps it was just good defense by Sapp which made him look bad.
Batista plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Batista lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Sapp darts in trying to clinch

and Batista counters with a nice double leg into side control. Sapp won't be happy with that.
A lull in the action here as Batista stalls from top position.
You can see the frustration on Sapp's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Batista swings around for an armbar but Sapp sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Batista's guard.

Batista manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Sapp defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Batista.
Batista avoids the attempt from Sapp to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dave Batista dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Sapp shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Batista but Batista pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Batista fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sapp avoids it really well and circles away.
Sapp tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Batista lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.


It looks like Bob Sapp has been cut.
Batista tries to close the distance and clinch but Sapp swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Batista throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Sapp on the side of the head.
Sapp shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Batista sprawls well. Batista wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Sapp gets slowly back to his feet.

Sapp tries to clinch there but Batista circles away.
Sapp misses with a kick to the body.

Batista changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sapp looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Batista looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Batista lands a nice forearm strike.
Sapp on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Sapp seems a little lost for a moment, as Batista dominates the positioning.

Batista tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Batista has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Sapp dodges the ground and pound from Batista.

Batista is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sapp has escaped the position, nice work there.

Batista throws a strike aimed at the side of Sapp's head but Sapp avoids it well.
Batista tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Batista advances to mount.
Batista is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sapp can do to turn this around?
Batista lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Batista prevents Sapp from getting the reversal.
Batista controlling the pace for now.
Batista is landing with some decent strikes but Sapp is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sapp tries to lock up and control but Batista gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Sapp bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Sapp postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Batista has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Sapp wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Batista's closed guard. He's half up but Batista has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Batista pivots and extends the arm, Sapp falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Batista! Well done that man!
