Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, William Thomas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, jt Wash! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Kenichi Hosakawa and Taro Takaoka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thomas tries to clinch but Wash moves out of range. Wash tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Thomas paws at him with a jab and circles away. Wash with a poor takedown and Thomas counters with a single leg into guard. Wash didn't expect that. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Thomas is working Wash over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Wash is trying to control the position but Thomas postures up. Thomas in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Thomas showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Wash keeping full guard, as Thomas tries to pass. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Thomas is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Thomas pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Wash is keeping the position for now.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Thomas shoots for a double leg takedown but Wash sprawls well. He's pushed Thomas's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Thomas scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Thomas has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Thomas is looking to take a break and control but Wash is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Wash really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Thomas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Thomas is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Wash has escaped the position, nice work there. Thomas has an Americana. Wash didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Thomas is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Thomas hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
