Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Askren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Randon Rett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rett is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Gimme Shelter--Rolling Stones. John Askren has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 10 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, John Askren! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Randon Rett! The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Dmitry Maklakov and Ivan Kurochkin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Askren connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Rett's hands. Askren misses with an uppercut. Askren tries to bum rush Rett with a series of wild strikes but Rett uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Askren scores with the left hand. Rett knows he should have avoided that one. Rett keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Askren moves away from the strike by Rett. Rett wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Rett with a body punch. A glancing blow. Askren tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Askren misses with a body shot
and Rett counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Rett pushes down on Askren's leg and manages to get into half guard. Askren manages to get to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Askren keeping moving, preventing Rett from controlling successfully. Askren wants to stand up but Rett is controlling him. Rett trying to control but Askren is working from the bottom. Rett throws an elbow that misses. Askren uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Rett's guard. Nice move by Askren!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Askren wanted to stand there but Rett had control of the position. Askren has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Rett trying to keep a closed guard but Askren is proving a slippery customer.
Askren's corner is telling him to maintain position. Rett is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Askren stands up and waves to Rett to follow him. Askren misses with a shot to the body and Rett counters with a nice body shot.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rett fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Rett shoots for a double leg takedown but Askren sprawls well. He's pushed Rett's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Rett manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Askren on his heels. He'll look to pass Askren's guard now, I'm sure. Rett working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Askren is looking to stand up but Rett isn't so interested in that idea. Askren has his hands on Rett's head, controlling the position. Rett throwing strikes from guard but Askren blocks nicely. Rett postures up in Askren's guard and throws a big left but Askren blocks it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rett throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Askren works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Askren is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Askren has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Rett makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Askren might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Askren wants to sweep here but Rett controlling him for the moment. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Rett is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Randon Rett dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
A swing and a miss from Rett. John Askren seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Askren uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Rett. Rett fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Askren manages to avoid it. Askren with a body punch. A glancing blow. Rett throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A lazy left from Rett finds it's target. Rett tries for a takedown but Askren circles away easily and Askren counters by clinching up. Askren doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

That's one minute gone in the round. With the two fighters working up against the cage, Askren just misses with a elbow thrown towards Rett's brow. Askren throws a punch but it's blocked by Rett. Rett dodges an elbow strike from Askren.
Rett slowing the pace effectively. Rett is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Askren to keep the fight standing. Askren misses with a hook from the clinch. Rett avoids a wild elbow strike from Askren. Askren looking to slow down the pace here. Askren has clasped his hands together around Rett's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Rett is looking for a sweep. Rett is trying to control Askren's posture but Askren avoids it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Askren tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. Rett gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Askren seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rett does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Askren seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Rett is trying to get back to full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rett blocking the ground and pound attempt from Askren. Askren is trying to control. Rett wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of John Askren. Rett misses with a hook. Askren ducked under it nicely. Askren tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Askren misses with a jab, cross combination.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Askren throws a leg kick but Rett sees it coming and checks it nicely. Askren scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Askren throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Askren avoids the body shot from Rett.

Askren connects with a good right hand that stumbles Rett. Rett circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Askren throws a head kick but Rett moves out of range.

enabling Rett to counter with a crisp jab. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Askren tries a head kick but it misses.
Askren tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rett swats him away and circles back towards the center. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Rett is defended easily by Askren. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
John Askren dominated that second round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!
Askren takes a swing at Rett's ribcage but misses. Askren looking for a takedown here - he's got it. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rett is on top in guard.
Rett tries to free his leg and advance position but Askren is retaining full guard. Rett cracks Askren with a solid left hand. Rett landing with the ground and pound. Rett controlling from the top position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rett trying to control the position from guard on top but Askren is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Rett looking to sit in guard and control but Askren gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Rett is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Askren is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Rett has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rett trying to control the position.
Rett bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Askren's guard. Rett throwing strikes but missing. Rett throws an elbow that misses. Askren uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Rett's guard. Nice move by Askren! Rett tries to land a sweep but no joy. Rett looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rett wants to sweep but no luck. Rett working a defensive guard here.
Askren won't allow Rett to sweep him here. Askren stands and steps away. Rett gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. No luck for Rett with that takedown attempt. Askren throws a push kick but Rett slaps the foot to one side. Rett is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Askren rather than just go for the knockout. Askren uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Rett.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Askren tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Rett was well out of range. Poor timing from Askren. Rett fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. A looping hook to the body misses from Rett. Askren does a little dance to reset his feet. Askren defending well as Rett loads up on a big left hand. Askren throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Rett cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Rett throws the left hand but Askren avoids the punch easily. Askren clinches with his opponent.
Rett tries to pull guard but Askren won't allow it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Rett breaks the clinch.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Askren throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
And that's the end of the fight! Randon Rett comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Rett has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
