Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Melvin Cronkite (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hiruku Matah (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cronkite comes into the arena with Croc song! blaring out of the sound system. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Melvin Cronkite!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hiruku Matah!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, David Schapiro and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Matah throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Cronkite tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Matah is in Cronkite's guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Cronkite is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Matah is aware though and is defending well.
Matah wants to pass the guard but Cronkite is keeping the position.

Cronkite looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Matah advances to half guard.
Cronkite is trying to get back to full guard.

Matah is trying to work for a kimura but Cronkite is defending well.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Matah is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Matah is pressing down on Cronkite's thigh, looking to free his foot. Cronkite is holding on for now.
Cronkite moves into full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Cronkite has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Matah can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Matah passes into half guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Matah is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cronkite defends it well.
Cronkite has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Matah is working away from the top position though.
Matah prevents Cronkite from improving his position.
Cronkite regains full guard. Nicely done.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cronkite escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Matah gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Cronkite is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Matah is aware though and is defending well.
Matah advances to half guard.
Matah wants to pass to mount but Cronkite is defending the position.

Matah is trying to work for a kimura but Cronkite is defending well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Matah is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cronkite defends it well.

Matah wants to work for an arm triangle but Cronkite is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Cronkite gets back to full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cronkite is on top in guard.
Matah looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cronkite is one step ahead there.
Matah is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cronkite connects with a couple of short punches.
Cronkite landing some decent shots from guard.
Matah can't keep his opponent in guard - Cronkite advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Cronkite is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Matah makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Matah.
Cronkite stands and throws Matah's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Matah tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cronkite wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Cronkite is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Matah has escaped the position, nice work there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Cronkite thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Matah manages to work his way to half guard, despite Cronkite's best efforts.

Matah is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Cronkite pulls his head out easily.
Cronkite passes to full mount!
Cronkite moves to the back position.
Matah turns into Cronkite and is now in his guard.

Cronkite has his foot on Matah's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Matah works his way back into a safe position though.
Cronkite looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Cronkite looking for a guillotine here but Matah defends easily.

Matah has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Cronkite to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Matah is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Cronkite pulls down on the head and he's put Matah to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Melvin Cronkite!
Melvin Cronkite decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
