Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Arnaud Rio! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kisame Hoshigaki! The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Patrick Alders and Radbod Blank.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hoshigaki will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Hoshigaki closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Rio works his way to full guard. Good work. Rio might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Rio is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rio in particular looking to stall. Rio decides to return to a standing position. Rio rushes Hoshigaki and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! The pace really dropping off here, momentarily. A nice glancing elbow lands by Hoshigaki.
It looks like Arnaud Rio has been cut.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hoshigaki pulls guard successfully.
Hoshigaki avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Hoshigaki is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Hoshigaki wants to sweep here but Rio controlling him for the moment. Hoshigaki wants to get back to his feet but Rio is in a dominant position and won't allow it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rio stands up from Hoshigaki's guard - Rio perhaps looking for a knockout.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rio has a takedown stuffed. Hoshigaki drives through with a takedown into Rio's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Hoshigaki really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rio. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Rio managing to control the position. Rio controls Hoshigaki momentarily but Hoshigaki frees himself. Rio preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hoshigaki accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Hoshigaki in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Hoshigaki missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hoshigaki wants to pass the guard but Rio is keeping the position. Rio trying to control the position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Hoshigaki throws a big elbow that misses. Rio lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Hoshigaki! Rio controlling the position easily from mount. Hoshigaki really wants to buck Rio off and get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hoshigaki can't escape the position.
Rio sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Rio raining down hammerfists from mount. Hoshigaki tries to buck Rio off but Rio takes his back! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Rio misses with a punch to the head. Rio is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Arnaud Rio will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Arnaud Rio's cut. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
The fight moves into the clinch position. Rio prevents the takedown attempt.

Arnaud Rio has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kisame Hoshigaki. Hoshigaki shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rio as he jumps to the side. Kisame Hoshigaki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rio wants to clinch up but Hoshigaki keeps it at a distance. Rio misses with a few strikes there.
Rio shoots for a takedown but Hoshigaki saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Hoshigaki tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rio swivels and escapes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nice sprawl there from Hoshigaki as Rio shoots in. Rio looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Hoshigaki! Rio controlling from the full mount. Hoshigaki is in a horrible position here. Rio smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Hoshigaki's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Hoshigaki tries to lock up and control but Rio gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hoshigaki can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rio lands with some strikes. Rio controlling from the full mount. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Hoshigaki is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Rio is in the full mount, landing strikes. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hoshigaki is desperately trying to improve his position but Rio has a good base and remains in mount. Rio trying to control but he's not successful this time. Hoshigaki tries to get back to half guard but can't.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rio looking to control and managing it successfully. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Rio cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Hoshigaki really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Arnaud Rio dominated that second round. The cut man is working on Arnaud Rio's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
Rio will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Rio sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs. Hoshigaki closes the distance and clinches. Hoshigaki is pressed up against the cage. Rio has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Hoshigaki down to the mat. Hoshigaki avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Hoshigaki misses with a takedown attempt - Rio sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Hoshigaki drives through with a takedown into Rio's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. This has been an exciting period of action! Hoshigaki with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Hoshigaki cracks Rio with a solid left hand. Rio is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hoshigaki is aware though and is defending well. Hoshigaki postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Hoshigaki landing with the ground and pound. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Hoshigaki throwing strikes but missing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hoshigaki throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Rio keeping moving, preventing Hoshigaki from controlling successfully. Hoshigaki in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Hoshigaki postures up in Rio's guard and throws a big left but Rio blocks it. Hoshigaki scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Hoshigaki throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Hoshigaki with a nice head shot there. Hoshigaki connects with a couple of short punches. Arnaud Rio overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Hoshigaki trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Rio controls Hoshigaki momentarily but Hoshigaki frees himself.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hoshigaki scoring with some ground and pound. Hoshigaki tries to free his leg and advance position but Rio is retaining full guard. Rio utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Hoshigaki pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rio is keeping the position for now. Hoshigaki working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Hoshigaki lands a couple of elbows. Hoshigaki postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Hoshigaki with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Hoshigaki postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hoshigaki accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rio bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hoshigaki's guard. Hoshigaki keeping full guard, as Rio tries to pass. Hoshigaki wants to stand and escape but Rio is having none of it. Rio throws a big right hand that misses. Rio wants to control from the top but Hoshigaki keeps moving. Hoshigaki is looking to stand up but Rio isn't so interested in that idea. Hoshigaki is looking to stand back up but Rio counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Hoshigaki.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rio stands up from half guard. Hoshigaki shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rio but Rio pushes him off and we're back to square one. Arnaud Rio is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Rio clinches. Rio stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Rio is looking to take this one to the mat. Kisame Hoshigaki has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Arnaud Rio is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Arnaud Rio. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hoshigaki lands a nice uppercut.
And that's the end of the fight! Kisame Hoshigaki comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Rio has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
