Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brian Severs! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nick Poppy! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Trevor Gratis and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Severs shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Severs is in close to Poppy's body, working some short punches and elbows. Poppy working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Severs. Severs throws a big right hand that misses. Severs looking to pass the guard. Severs throws a big right hand that misses. Severs chips away with some ground and pound. Severs might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Severs trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Severs content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Severs throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Poppy works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Severs is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Poppy looking to control.
This has been an exciting period of action! Severs throws a strike but Poppy rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
That's one minute gone in the round. Poppy preventing the sweep. Severs is trying to keep Poppy in close.
Severs throws a nice elbow from the bottom. Poppy won't allow Severs to sweep him here. Severs controls Poppy momentarily but Poppy frees himself. Severs throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. Severs is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Severs not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Severs looking for a sweep. Not yet Severs, not yet. Severs is striking but Poppy is not phased and passes to half guard. Poppy prevents Severs from improving his position. Poppy controlling the action here. Severs is concentrating on defense, preventing Poppy from advancing position. Severs is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Severs lands one or two decent shots to the body here. Although from his own half guard, he's not going to be causing too much damage. Poppy moves into full mount! Severs won't be happy about that!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Severs tries to lock up and control but Poppy gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Severs tries to get back to half guard but can't. Severs could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Severs is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes. Severs gets back to half guard. Severs punching from the bottom.
Severs wants to control but Poppy is keeping busy and won't allow it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Severs misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Severs throws a strike from the bottom but Poppy passes into side control!
Severs is trying to strike from the bottom but Poppy has passed into full mount. Severs is looking to get to half guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Severs flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Severs is looking to improve his position but Poppy isn't that keen on the idea. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Brian Severs dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Poppy ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Poppy scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Poppy lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
It looks like Brian Severs has been cut. Severs looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Poppy is fending him off so far but Severs persists. Nope, Poppy circles away and we're back to standing. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Poppy scores with a body shot.
Brian Severs seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Severs fails with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brian Severs. That's going to take a lot out of him. Severs has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Poppy lands a nice shot that snaps Severs's head back.
Severs is rocked! Poppy knocks out Severs with a massive right hand! The ref tackles Poppy before he can follow up with any more strikes and that's it everyone. Poppy picks up the big W with a huge KO!
