PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ray Ringer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Johnson's choice of entrance music: How To Love. Johnson has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jack Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ringer fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Johnson looks gassed!
Johnson stuffs the takedown attempt from Ringer. Ringer gets slowly back to his feet.

Ringer pushes Johnson up against the cage in a clinch.
Ringer scores with a nice hook to the head.

Johnson is fighting off a takedown attempt but Ringer is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Johnson to the mat. Johnson regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Johnson wants to stand but Ringer is controlling the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Johnson can do anything to dispel that myth.
Ringer throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Johnson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Ringer controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Ray Ringer just wasn't active enough.

Ringer has Johnson pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Johnson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Ringer throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Johnson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Ringer is in Johnson's guard.
Johnson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ringer. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Ringer takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Ringer seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Johnson for as long as he can get away with.

Ray Ringer has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Ringer looks to land a combination. Johnson sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Ringer drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Ringer is trying to trip Johnson. He has hold of a leg but Johnson is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Ringer persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ringer decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Ringer throws a solid leg kick but Johnson takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Ringer.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Johnson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Ringer cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ringer is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Johnson is surviving well by controlling Ringer's body position as best he can.
