Brooks comes to the cage accompanied by (Matallica) Ride the lightning. Jason Brooks is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Brooks.
Lowley swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Lowley is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Brooks misses with a wild body shot.
Brooks fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Lowley manages to avoid it.

Lowley stalks Brooks and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Brooks's face. Brooks staggers backwards, shaken.
Lowley throws a right hand that Brooks ducks under and follows up with a left that Brooks also avoids with ease.
Lowley misses with a body shot.
Lowley ducks under a wild hook from Brooks.
Lowley lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
A jab from Brooks misses.
Brooks takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Brooks closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Brooks is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.

Brooks escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Brooks is trying hard to land a takedown here. Lowley sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Lowley lands a nice shot that snaps Brooks's head back.

Lowley cracks Brooks with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Lowley walks into a jab.
Lowley throws a hook to the side of Brooks's head but Brooks sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Brooks slips a jab and a cross from Lowley.

Brooks clinches up with Lowley and pushes him back against the cage.

Brooks jumps into guard, dragging Lowley to the mat.

Brooks is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Lowley trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Brooks escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Lowley gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Brooks is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lowley defends well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Brooks working for a triangle but Lowley defends it easily.

Lowley avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Lowley passes Brooks's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Brooks is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Lowley's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Lowley's back!
Lowley is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Lowley rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Lowley wants to control but Brooks is keeping busy.
Lowley tries to kick Brooks off in order to stand up. Brooks Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

Lowley manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Lowley is looking for a sweep. Brooks is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lowley tries to kick Brooks off in order to stand up. Brooks Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Lowley lands a jab to the nose.
Brooks's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Lowley connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Brooks scrambles back to his feet.
Lowley throws a big shot that misses.
Brooks throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Brooks misses with a jab, cross combination.
Brooks scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Lowley ducks under a wild hook from Brooks.
Brooks stalks Lowley and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Lowley's face. Lowley staggers backwards, shaken.


It looks like Joe Lowley has been cut.
Lowley throws a lazy right hand but Brooks sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Brooks throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Lowley.

Brooks instigates a clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Brooks successfully pulls guard.

Brooks working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lowley doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lowley manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Brooks is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Brooks utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Joe Lowley hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Lowley is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

Lowley has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Brooks can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Jason Brooks overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Brooks decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Lowley on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lowley tries a body shot but Brooks blocks it.

Brooks ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Brooks no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Lowley wants to get up but he can't break Brooks's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
