Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Kanbu Uechi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Mercer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kanbu Uechi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ryan Mercer!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Sosuke Kotani.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Uechi shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mercer's guard.
Mercer looking to control.
Uechiis looking to pass into half guard but Mercer pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Mercer is in guard.
Uechi keeping moving, preventing Mercer from controlling successfully.
Mercer avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Mercer is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Mercer postures up in Uechi's guard and throws a big left but Uechi blocks it.

Uechi is not content to let Mercer control the position.

Uechi sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Uechi has a hand on Mercer's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Mercer takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Mercer wants to control the pace but Uechi is squirming around nicely.
Uechi is looking to get to half guard.
Mercer has hold of Uechi's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Uechi manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Uechi is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Mercer with the ground and pound from mount.
Mercer with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Uechi can't escape the position.
Mercer pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Uechi is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Uechi has given up his back here. Will Mercer look for the submission or keep pounding away?
Mercer has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Mercer throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Uechi!
Mercer connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Uechi to escape the position.
Uechi wants to escape the position.
Uechi is breathing heavily.
Mercer is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Uechi defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Uechi turns into Mercer and is now in his guard.

Mercer is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Uechi is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Mercer jumps into side control!
Mercer tries for a kimura but Uechi is defending well.
Mercer is trying to get an arm triangle but Uechi is defending well.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Mercer is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Uechi has escaped the position, nice work there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ryan Mercer dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Uechi scores a takedown into full mount!
Mercer is desperately trying to improve his position but Uechi has a good base and remains in mount.
Uechi swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Mercer is now in Uechi's guard. A big mistake from Uechi there, giving up the dominant position!
Uechi working for a triangle but Mercer defends it easily.
Uechi has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Mercer is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Uechi.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Mercer lands a nice forearm strike.

Uechi is trying to work for a sweep but Mercer has mounted him!
Mercer breaks from Uechi's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Uechi reaches up to try and control the position but Mercer seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Uechi rolls and tries to escape and now Mercer has his back!

This has been an exciting period of action!
Mercer is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Uechi is defending well though. Mercer let's go of the attempt for now.

Uechi is in bad spot here.
Mercer connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Uechi to escape the position.
Mercer lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Uechi is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Ryan Mercer has got the better of the ground game so far.
Uechi is trying to break free.
Uechi fending off the submission attempt from Mercer.

Mercer wants to control but Uechi is keeping busy.
Uechi covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
Mercer has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Uechi rolls, trying to escape but Mercer keeps control of the position.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mercer slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Uechi rolls, trying to escape but Mercer keeps control of the position.

A determined Ryan Mercer didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
