Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Johny Walsh! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kourt Meyers! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Micheangelo Fripello and Ryoma Takatsuka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Meyers tries for a takedown but Walsh circles away easily and Walsh counters with a two punch combo. Walsh just misses with a punch to the body.
Meyers fails with the takedown and Walsh counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. A shot to the liver by Walsh. Beautiful body shot. Meyers throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Walsh's waist but Walsh gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Meyers off to one side. Johny Walsh has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kourt Meyers. Walsh scores with a jab to the body. Meyers bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. This has been an exciting period of action! The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Walsh sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Meyers is looking for a kimura here.
Meyers is looking to advance position but Walsh won't allow it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Meyers looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Walsh is trying to stand back up but Meyers is controlling him
Walsh knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Meyers on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Meyers is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Walsh doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Meyers. Meyers is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Meyers is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Walsh sees it coming and defends easily. Meyers seems to be working for a kimura but Walsh defends the submission attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Meyers is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Walsh is in trouble now - Meyers has advanced to mount! Walsh is controlling an arm, preventing Meyers from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Meyers is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Meyers working for a submission but Walsh is keeping him at bay.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Meyers looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Meyers is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Walsh has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Meyers jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Walsh is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Walsh and Meyers has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Meyers looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kourt Meyers dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Walsh rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Meyers moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Meyers takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Meyers keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Meyers shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. and Walsh counters with a massive uppercut that badly hurts Meyers! He's just covering up as Walsh starts to tee off till the referee steps in and stops the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Johny Walsh!
