The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Guevara tries to keep at a distance but R has taken the fight into the clinch.
R slows down the pace here.

R pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A telegraphed right hand from R misses the target.
Guevara shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts R as he jumps to the side.
A combination from R does no damage.
Sloppy strikes from R. Those never looked like landing.

R fails to land with a series of punches.
R jabs Guevara to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Guevara closes this distance looking for a takedown but R circles away.
Gage R has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ernesto Guevara.

R stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and R wants it to stay on the feet.

R throws a right and a left that both miss.
Guevara throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around R's waist but R gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Guevara off to one side.
R misses with an uppercut. Guevara saw that one coming.
R lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Guevara circles away quickly and effectively.
R throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Guevara.

R jabs Guevara right on the nose. Guevara blinks but takes it well.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
R gets back to half guard.
R tries to roll over but Guevara keeps him under control.
R is trying to control but can't.
R manages to get to full guard.
Guevara missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
R has Guevara pulled in close to control his posture.
R is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

R seems to be looking for submissions.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. R connects with a nice short shot to Guevara's temple.
R lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

R looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
R has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Guevara tries to roll over but R keeps him under control.

R loads up on a big right hand but Guevara slips the punch.

R throws a nice looking combination but Guevara bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
R throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Guevara shoots for a double leg takedown but R sprawls well. He's pushed Guevara's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

R throws a series of strikes that have Guevara backpedaling.
Guevara changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. R tries to avoid it but Guevara manages to keep hold of a leg and drag R to the ground. R escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts R, as that shot connected.
R connects with the punch.
R misses with a combination

and Guevara counters with a nice double leg into guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Guevara throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as R works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Guevara must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
