Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Abdul Rashid Naji! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
15 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Don Piano! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Ian Loll and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Naji throws a lazy uppercut
and Piano counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Naji looks to throw the jab but Piano is out of range. Piano shoots for a takedown but Naji saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Some wild striking there from Piano.
Piano scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Naji wants to control but Piano is keeping busy and won't allow it. Piano is working for a kimura but Naji is defending it quite comfortably.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Piano thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Naji's head. Piano is looking to take a break and control but Naji is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Piano thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Naji is looking for a sweep. Piano is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Piano seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Naji does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Naji tries to get to full guard but Piano has control of the leg.
That's one minute gone in the round. Naji has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Piano is working away from the top position though. Piano wants to pass to mount but Naji is defending the position. Piano missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Naji is staying active underneath Piano, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Naji is looking to improve his position.
Naji gets full guard. Naji throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Piano wants to control from the top but Naji keeps moving.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Naji looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Piano is defending well. Naji quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Piano has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Naji celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
