PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Eric Germano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chung Gum Hing (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Eric Germano!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chung Gum Hing!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Paulo Santos and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Germano.

Germano working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Germano goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Hing rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Germano's guard! Nice work there by Hing!

Germano is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Germano is breathing heavily.
Hing controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Germano thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Germano can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Hing controls the pace.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hing trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Hing postures up in Germano's guard and throws a big left but Germano blocks it.

Germano keeping busy on the bottom but Hing has passed one foot through into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hing connects with a nice short shot to Germano's temple.
Germano moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Hing controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Hing wants to pass the guard but Germano is keeping the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Hing decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Germano, up you get!
Hing tries to close the distance and clinch but Germano swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hing throws a jab but it's blocked by Germano.
Germano avoids the head kick by Hing.
Hing throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Germano on the side of the head.

Germano tries to keep at a distance but Hing has taken the fight into the clinch.
Germano managing to block the knees to the body from Hing.

Hing escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hing misses with a head kick.
Germano pulls out of a head kick attempt.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Hing lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Germano has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Germano and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Hing slow jab from Germano misses its intended target.
Hing pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Hing keeps the fight on the outside.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chung Gum Hing dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Germano avoids a punch combination nicely.
Hing throws a sloppy head kick

and Germano counters with a single leg into guard. Hing didn't expect that.

Germano drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hing manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Germano has Hing in his guard.
Hing wants to control from the top but Germano keeps moving.
Hing stays in close to Germano's body and controls the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Germano is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Germano trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Hing is standing up over Germano. Germano looks to escape but Hing dives into side control.
Germano is looking for a sweep.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Hing controls the position.
Germano is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Hing off and has taken his back!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Germano doesn't have the hooks in and Hing manages to turn into his guard.
Hing stays in close to Germano's body and controls the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Germano looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Hing is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Germano has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hing can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Germano wants to stand and escape but Hing is having none of it.

Germano working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hing doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hing manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Hing is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A head kick misses from Hing.
Germano is looking to slow Hing down with leg kicks.
Hing wants to clinch

and Germano counters with a takedown into side control.
Eric Germano overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Germano goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Hing has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Germano but great work by Hing.
Germano takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Hing wants to lay and pray for a moment but Germano keeps working.
Germano manages to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hing prevents Germano from improving his position.

Hing tries to pass the half guard into mount. Germano knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Hing is controlling the pace.
Hing's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Germano is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Hing with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Germano wants to improve his position but Hing is controlling well.
Hing is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Hing prevents Germano from getting the reversal.
Hing controlling his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Despite being in the dominant position, Chung Gum Hing just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hing fails with an attempt to clinch.

and Germano counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

And that's the end of the fight!
Eric Germano showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Germano has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
