PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Renton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anton Rage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Renton comes to the cage accompanied by A Small Victory. Anton Rage told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Renton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anton Rage!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Gwen Towbar and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Renton fails with an attempt to clinch.
Mark Renton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Renton has a takedown stuffed.

Renton bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Renton is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Rage has escaped the position, nice work there.
Renton working away.
Rage managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Renton.
Renton is looking to take a break and control but Rage is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Renton is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Rage knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Renton prevents Rage from escaping the position.
Rage is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Renton taking a break here but Rage is having none of it and regains half guard.
Renton thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Renton uses his free foot to push down on Rage's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Rage.
Rage has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
Renton doesn't have the hooks in and Rage manages to turn into his guard.
Renton managing to control the position.
Renton will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Renton lands some strikes from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Rage gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Rage looks gassed!
Renton misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Renton fails with an attempt to clinch.

Renton darts in and clinches Rage up against the cage.

Renton pulls guard.

Renton has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rage can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Rage trying to control but Renton is working from the bottom.
Renton tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Rage trying to stand up but can't free himself from Renton's guard.

Rage avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Renton keeping moving, preventing Rage from controlling successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rage won't allow Renton to sweep him here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Renton working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rage doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rage manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Renton manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rage manages to get himself to full guard.
Renton passes into half guard.

Renton is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rage defends it well.

Renton in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Rage tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Renton!
