Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Samson Savea! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sergei Kostytin! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Wesley Smith and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice body kick from Savea. Savea shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Savea was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Savea looking to finish Kostytin with some ground and pound. This is bad for Kostytin! Kostytin's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Savea trying to control but Kostytin is having none of it. Savea working the ground and pound effectively.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Kostytin holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Savea tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Savea scoring with strikes but Kostytin is staying in there. Kostytin is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Savea is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Kostytin to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Kostytin shrugs it off. The referee warns Kostytin that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Savea wants to control the pace but Kostytin is squirming around nicely. Kostytin is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Savea looking to control but Kostytin is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Kostytin tries to buck Savea off but he can't manage it. Kostytin bucks up and throws Savea to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape! Savea goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
It looks like Sergei Kostytin has been cut. This has been an exciting period of action! Savea with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Savea lands a jab to the head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Savea darts in and clinches Kostytin up against the cage. Kostytin drops down looking for an ankle pick but Savea pulls his leg out and moves away.
Savea lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Kostytin backs up against the cage.
Kostytin is rocked! Savea throws a monster overhand right that drops Kostytin! Savea follows up with more strikes from mount and the fight is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Samson Savea! Samson Savea is the new heavyweight champion! Samson Savea gave a mention to Just Fight in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales).
