PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ivan Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Ervin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ervin is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: 3 Seconds to Freedom by Pop Evil. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ivan Emelianenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Marcus Ervin!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Steve Smith and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Emelianenko shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ervin as he jumps to the side.
Horrible takedown by Emelianenko or perhaps it was just good defense by Ervin which made him look bad.
Emelianenko shoots in and drives through. Ervin sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ivan Emelianenko. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Emelianenko shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ervin as he avoids it easily.

Ervin drives through with a takedown into guard.
Ervin loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Emelianenko had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Ervin is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Emelianenko Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Ervin's back instead.

Ervin turns into Emelianenko and is now in his guard.

Ervin drops back, looking for a kneebar! Emelianenko looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Emelianenko looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Emelianenko!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Emelianenko wants to finish this one by submission but Ervin is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Emelianenko.

Ervin is trying to maintain the position but Emelianenko is very close to passing his half guard.
Ervin wants to get back to full guard.
Emelianenko is tying to control. Ervin wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Emelianenko is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

That was a close round but I would say that Ivan Emelianenko will probably get the nod.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ervin accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Emelianenko, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
