Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rusty Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rhys Williams!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, John Mangel and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Johnson with that takedown attempt.
Williams moves in looking to clinch but Johnson pushes him off.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Rhys Williams hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Johnson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Williams manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Williams shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Williams tries to free his leg and advance position but Johnson is retaining full guard.
Johnson has momentary wrist control but Williams slips an elbow through the middle.
Williams has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Rhys Williams showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fight stays on the outside here - Johnson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Johnson shoots in looking for a takedown but Williams manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Johnson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Williams shoots for a double leg takedown but Johnson sprawls well. He's pushed Williams's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Williams checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Johnson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Rhys Williams is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Rusty Johnson.
I think Williams has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
