Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Christian De Ertu! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Andre Santos! The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Josh West and Paul Gruel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Santos shoots in and bounces De Ertu off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard. Santos thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Santos must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. De Ertu working a defensive guard here.
De Ertu keeping full guard, as Santos tries to pass. Santos drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and De Ertu dives on top into guard. De Ertu stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Santos swivels though and keeps the full guard. De Ertu missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. De Ertu wants to stand but Santos is controlling his posture from full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. De Ertu tries to free his leg and advance position but Santos is retaining full guard. Santos looking for a guillotine here but De Ertu defends easily.
De Ertu got a little sloppy there for a moment and Santos has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, De Ertu has managed to get both his arms back between Santos's legs - danger averted. De Ertu trying to control the position from guard on top but Santos is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Santos looking for submissions from the bottom but instead De Ertu passes into side control.
Santos can't do much from the bottom here. De Ertu wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Santos, who protects the arm well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. De Ertu tries to score with some ground and pound. Santos controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Santos is looking to reverse the position. Santos sneaks back into half guard. De Ertu will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. De Ertu is looking to take a break and control but Santos is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Santos actively working from the bottom here. This has been an exciting period of action! Santos looking for submissions from an awkward position here. De Ertu seems to be working for a kimura but Santos defends the submission attempt. De Ertu looks to land a strike but Santos avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. De Ertu trying to control the position from guard on top but Santos is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. De Ertu really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Santos isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. De Ertu stacks Santos on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by De Ertu! De Ertu thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. De Ertu misses with the ground and pound. De Ertu trying to control the position but Santos is working away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. De Ertu is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Santos knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Santos wants to control but De Ertu postures up. Santos is looking to regain half guard here but De Ertu keeps moving and retains side control. De Ertu thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Santos is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on De Ertu's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Santos moves into full guard.

Santos looks to land a right hand but De Ertu moved out of range. De Ertu has his takedown stuffed and Santos counters by clinching up. Santos gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Santos tries to free his leg and advance position but De Ertu is retaining full guard. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Santos postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! De Ertu is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Santos, into his guard. De Ertu trying to control but Santos is working from the bottom. De Ertu trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Andre Santos has got the better of the ground game so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Santos working for a triangle but De Ertu defends it easily.
Santos has his foot on De Ertu's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. De Ertu works his way back into a safe position though. Santos had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. De Ertu defends it easily. Santos is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Santos keeping moving, preventing De Ertu from controlling successfully. Santos pushes a forearm under De Ertu's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, De Ertu is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Andre Santos! Andre Santos got down on his knees post fight and begged the management for a title shot. 'Please, I want that title shot so bad! Give it to me!'
