PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Tapout (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Jaffer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tapout comes to the cage accompanied by Runaway. Jaffer has chosen DubRaider- Starry Eyes as his entrance music. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as James Jaffer enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tommy Tapout!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Jaffer!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Daniel Blasius and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A decent looking cross lands there for Jaffer.
Jaffer digs a good hook to Tapout's body.

Jaffer shoots in and gets a takedown into Tapout's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Jaffer wants to control from the top but Tapout keeps moving.

Tapout is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jaffer defends well.

Tapout working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jaffer doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jaffer manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Tapout has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Jaffer is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Tapout.

A close round but James Jaffer will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Tommy Tapout is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Tapout tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jaffer smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tommy Tapout. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jaffer has closed the distance and engaged Tapout in a clinch.
Jaffer misses with some punches.
Jaffer lands with a right to the head.
Tapout blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Jaffer lands a body shot.
Jaffer lands a left hand.
Tapout jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Jaffer walks away with a smile on his face. Tapout gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Jaffer swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Tapout.
Tapout tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Jaffer counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
A telegraphed right hand from Jaffer misses the target.

Tapout scores with a takedown into Jaffer's guard.
Jaffer seems keen to control Tapout's posture.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

OK we're going to have a standup here. James Jaffer hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Jaffer lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Jaffer rushes Tapout and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

James Jaffer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Tapout is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Tapout stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Jaffer.
Jaffer uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Tapout has time to react.
Tapout takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

A battle for position here, against the cage.

Jaffer breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A punch lands to the side of Tapout 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Jaffer will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Jaffer lands with a straight right. Tapout didn't see that one coming.
Tapout tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Donk. Jaffer catches Tapout right on the button with a cross.

Jaffer leaves Tapout with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Tommy Tapout overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jaffer is pulling down on Tapout's head. It's preventing any offense from Tapout, at least for the moment.
Let's hope that Jaffer has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The crowd cheers as Jaffer lands an impressive looking overhand right. Tapout doesn't seem phased though.

James Jaffer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


A jab from Jaffer does it's job there.
Tapout tries to close the distance and clinch but Jaffer swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Jaffer gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Jaffer must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

James Jaffer comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jaffer has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking James Jaffer rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
