Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joe Rafinan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Glads Felipe! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Emerson Jorge and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rafinan shoots in for a takedown but Felipe shows good takedown defense. Felipe looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Rafinan misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. The fight stays on the outside here - Felipe looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Felipe takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Felipe tries to close the distance and clinch but Rafinan swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Felipe fails miserably with a takedown attempt. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Rafinan makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Felipe gets to his feet - Rafinan follows without any prompting. Rafinan lands a head kick!
Rafinan shoots for a double leg takedown but Felipe sprawls well. He's pushed Rafinan's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Rafinan throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Felipe works some decent striking defense from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rafinan postures up in Felipe's guard and throws a big left but Felipe blocks it. Rafinan won't allow Felipe to sweep him here. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Felipe has his foot on Rafinan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think.
