PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Chris John (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Dan Jones was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dan Jones!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Skip Squint and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Jones was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
John tries to hold on but Jones pushes him away.
John is desperately trying to improve his position but Jones has a good base and remains in mount.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of John's face.
Jones avoids the attempt from John to control.

Jones thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed John's head.

Jones displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from John.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

You get the feeling that Jones really doesn't like being in this position too much.

John stands up from mount. Strange move.
John fails with a takedown attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jones looks to land a combination but John avoids it well.
John goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Jones might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control John kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

John has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Jones off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
John slaps away a takedown attempt from Jones, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Jones swings for the body but John moves out of range.
Nice takedown defense from Jones. No joy for John on that attempt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jones uses good head movement to avoid the hook from John.

Jones feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Jones has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of John is proving hard to escape from.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!


No joy there for Jones, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
John shoots in looking for a takedown but Jones manages to keep the fight standing, pushing John's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Jones shoots for a double leg takedown but John sprawls well. He's pushed Jones's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Chris John has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Jones.

Jones leaves John with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

John fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Jones, pushing him back against the cage.

Jones wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but John has him pressed against the cage.
