Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Juarez Del Fuago! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Tucker! The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Steve Erwin and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tucker with a body punch. A glancing blow. Tucker stuffs the takedown. Tucker looks to land a combination. Del Fuago sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Tucker misses with a jab, cross combination.
Tucker's jab looks to have found its range, popping Del Fuago under the eye. Tucker ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Tucker scores with a hook to the body. Del Fuago takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Tucker scores with a body shot.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Del Fuago is defended easily by Tucker. Del Fuago takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Tucker, as that shot connected.
Del Fuago darts in trying to clinch and Tucker counters with a three punch combo that has Del Fuago backing up. Del Fuago nods at Tucker to acknowledge the strikes. Tucker lands a jab-cross combination.
That's one minute gone in the round. A clash of legs there as Tucker blocks the low kick. Tucker displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Del Fuago. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Juarez Del Fuago. That's going to take a lot out of him. Jab by Tucker. Tucker fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Tucker throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Del Fuago closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Tucker uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. James Tucker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Tucker stuffs the takedown. This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Del Fuago. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery. Del Fuago pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Tucker lands with an overhand left. Del Fuago takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Nice straight punches there by Tucker. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Tucker. Tucker keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tucker throws a right and a left that both miss. Del Fuago darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Tucker can do anything to dispel that myth. Del Fuago is breathing heavily. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Tucker looking for submissions off his back. Del Fuago looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Del Fuago is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tucker pushes Del Fuago off looking to stand but Del Fuago dives back in and keeps control.
Tucker really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Del Fuago. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Del Fuago thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Del Fuago wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tucker keeps working. Del Fuago is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Tucker defends it well. Del Fuago looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Del Fuago has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Del Fuago is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Tucker is forced to tap! Great finish!
