Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Oconnell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Vasili Volkar!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Oconnell closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Volkar manages to work his way to half guard, despite Oconnell's best efforts.
Volkar works his way to full guard. Good work.
Volkar is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Oconnell is looking to improve his position.
Oconnell is trying to maintain the position but Volkar is very close to passing his half guard.
Volkar thows a huge punch but Oconnell dodges it nicely.
Oconnell really is a fat lump.
Oconnell is looking for a sweep. Volkar is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Volkar is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Oconnell tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Volkar swivels and escapes.

Volkar closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Oconnell tries to roll over but Volkar keeps him under control.
Oconnell is working hard here to advance position.
Volkar looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Oconnell on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Oconnell tries to get out of the position.

Volkar thows a huge punch but Oconnell dodges it nicely.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Oconnell is looking to improve his position.
Oconnell landing strikes from the bottom.
Volkar is nestled in close to Oconnell, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Oconnell knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Volkar on the ground.

Volkar is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Oconnell defends it well.
Volkar throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Oconnell trying to hold on to Volkar's head to control him but Volkar postures up.
Oconnell is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Volkar connects with a nice short shot to Oconnell's temple.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Volkar is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Oconnell works his way to full guard. Good work.

Oconnell will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Oconnell lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Volkar!
Volkar is wriggling around trying to escape.
Oconnell pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Volkar has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Volkar tries to reverse the position but Oconnell maintains control.
Oconnell scoring with strikes but Volkar is staying in there.
Volkar is bucking up trying to escape but Oconnell cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Oconnell lands a heavy elbow.


Volkar is rocked!
Volkar keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Volkar is still in real trouble! Can Oconnell finish him?
Oconnell postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Volkar looks a forlorn figure.
The referee warns Volkar that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Oconnell raining down shots from the mount!
Oconnell looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Volkar covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!
