Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Perlito Calzada! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pete Patterson! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Daniel Cesar and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Calzada pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Calzada dips to his left and cracks Patterson with an uppercut! Calzada uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Patterson.
Calzada misses the shot to the body. Patterson shoots and misses and Calzada counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. A left lands for Calzada. Patterson ducks under a wild hook from Calzada. Patterson shoots in looking for a takedown but Calzada manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Patterson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Calzada looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Patterson blocks a jab. Calzada misses the body punch and Patterson counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Patterson. Patterson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Calzada avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Patterson stopping the sweep attempt from Calzada. Patterson looking to pass the guard. Patterson passes Calzada's left leg - he's now in half guard. Patterson wants to control but Calzada is keeping him busy. Calzada wants to get back to full guard. Patterson is working for a submission of some sort.
Patterson tries to pass the half guard into mount. Calzada knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Calzada tries to roll over but Patterson keeps him under control. Calzada is trying to stand back up but Patterson is controlling him
Patterson thows a huge punch but Calzada dodges it nicely.
Patterson missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Patterson is working for a kimura but Calzada is defending it quite comfortably.
Patterson trying to mount his opponent but Calzada defends it. Calzada is positioning himself well to prevent Patterson advancing to mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Patterson trying to control from half guard but Calzada is working away. Patterson is looking to stall here but Calzada recovers full guard. Patterson pushes down on Calzada's leg and manages to get into half guard. Patterson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Calzada is just riding it out for now. Patterson eventually gives up the hold. Calzada trying to hold on to Patterson's head to control him but Patterson postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Patterson is keen to just control but Calzada is a slippery customer. Calzada wants to improve his position but Patterson is controlling well.
Patterson is looking for a kimura here.
Calzada tries to get to full guard but Patterson has control of the leg. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Calzada has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Patterson is working away from the top position though. Calzada tries to get to full guard but Patterson has control of the leg. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Pete Patterson will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Patterson on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Calzada. Calzada obviously looking to wear him down.
A slow jab from Calzada misses its intended target. Calzada connects with a looping right hand.
Calzada tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Calzada throws a right and a left that both miss. Calzada throws out a leg kick but Patterson moves out of range and Calzada only half commits. Patterson defending well as Calzada loads up on a big left hand. Patterson shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Calzada napping and manages to drive through into side control! Patterson lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Calzada down.
Calzada takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
That's one minute gone in the round. Patterson looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Calzada is avoiding damage well.
Pete Patterson has got the better of the ground game so far. Patterson tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. Patterson tries to score with some ground and pound. Calzada controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Patterson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Calzada keeps working. Patterson throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Patterson sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Calzada is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Calzada tries to get back to half guard but can't. Patterson has hold of Calzada's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Calzada seems comfortable defending it but Patterson has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Calzada is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Calzada is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Patterson couldn't care less - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Pete Patterson! Jumping up and down and very excited, Pete Patterson waved his t-shirt featuring Reaper Combatwear's logo in front of the cameras.
