PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alex Steel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bradly Danielson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alex Steel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bradly Danielson!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Yves DeLean and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steel looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Danielson misses with a wild combination.

Steel closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Steel pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Danielson throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Steel stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Steel will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Steel lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Danielson circles away quickly and effectively.

Steel darts in and clinches Danielson up against the cage.
Danielson is trying to break the clinch but Steel is controlling him.

Danielson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Danielson feints and as Steel raises his hands in defense, Danielson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Danielson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Danielson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Steel is proving hard to escape from.
Danielson wants to stand and escape but instead Steel has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Danielson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Steel in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Steel is looking to stand up but Danielson won't let him.

Steel throwing strikes but missing.
Danielson wants to get back to his feet but Steel is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Danielson keeping moving, preventing Steel from controlling successfully.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Steel shoots in but no luck this time.
Steel throws a right and a left that both miss.

Danielson manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Steel on his heels. He'll look to pass Steel's guard now, I'm sure.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Danielson is looking to work some ground and pound but Steel has wrist control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Danielson wants to stand but Steel has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Alex Steel will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Steel fails to land the takedown.
Steel closes this distance looking for a takedown but Danielson circles away.
Steel misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Danielson misses with a few strikes there.
Steel is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Steel ducks right into an uppercut from Danielson.

Steel throws a front kick aimed at Danielson's knee but Danielson avoids it well.
Alex Steel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Steel moves into the clinch successfully.
Danielson tries to break free but Steel pushes him back against the cage.

Danielson has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Steel regains guard immediately.

Steel tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Danielson paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Steel throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Danielson's waist but Danielson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Steel off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Steel. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Steel bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Steel shoots in looking for a takedown. Danielson tries to sprawl out of it but Steel keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Danielson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Steel will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Bradly Danielson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Steel is fighting off a takedown attempt but Danielson is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Steel to the mat. Steel regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Danielson feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Steels jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Steel. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Danielson closes the distance and lands a one-two.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Bradly Danielson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Danielson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
