Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Hirohito Nitta and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carwin moves out of range of the strikes.
Nguyen looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Nguyen leaves Carwin with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Nguyen on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Nguyen throws a sloppy head kick and Carwin moves out of range easily.
Carwin clinches up against the cage.
Carwin is stalling here.
Nguyen is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Carwin to keep the fight standing.
Carwin breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Carwin closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Nguyen's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carwin's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Nguyen on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Nguyen tries to get out of the position.
Carwin wants to control from the top but Nguyen keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Shane Carwin was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Carwin tries to close the distance and clinch but Nguyen swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Carwin is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Nguyen is defending well for now.

Carwin keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Nguyen's efforts to push away.
Carwin's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
A looping hook to the body misses from Nguyen. Carwin does a little dance to reset his feet.
Nguyen looks to land a combination but Carwin avoids it well.

and Carwin counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Nguyen feints a jab promting Carwin to slip. Nguyen then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Carwin slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
It looks like Shane Carwin has been cut.
Carwin blocks a head kick by Nguyen.
Nguyen feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Carwin's calf.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Nguyen counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Nguyen will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Nguyen throws a right and a left that Carwin avoids nicely.

Carwin takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Nguyen lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Carwin is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Carwin swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Nguyen counters with a nice uppercut.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
No joy there for Nguyen, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

enabling Carwin to counter with a crisp jab.
A head kick misses from Nguyen.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and Nguyen counters with a nice kick to the body.
Sloppy strikes from Nguyen. Those never looked like landing.
Nguyen throws a nice looking combination but Carwin bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A low kick from Nguyen is predictable there
and Carwin decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Nguyen's guard.
Carwin won't allow Nguyen to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Shane Carwin will probably get the nod.

That's time! Nguyen's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

and Carwin cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Nguyen pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Carwin takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Nguyen throws a series of punches but Carwin moves out of range.
Nguyen throws a combination. Carwin tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Carwin is breathing heavily.
Nguyen throws a hook but Carwin avoids it easily.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Carwin shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Nguyen pinned against the cage. Nguyen gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Alex Nguyen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shane Carwin.

and Nguyen counters with a stiff right hand.
Carwin takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Nguyen connects with a jab and follows up with a big overhand right! Oh that's hurt Carwin! He's out on his feet! Nguyen rushes in and drops Carwin with another big right hand, forcing the referee to stop the fight!
