PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ace Spades (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Dash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Spades comes to the cage accompanied by Im A Beast. Dash has chosen Man Behind the Mask as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ace Spades! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, David Dash! The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Alyssa Summers and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dash shoots for a double leg takedown but Spades sprawls well. He's pushed Dash's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Spades closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Spades looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Spades successfully pulls guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Spades can't keep his opponent in guard - Dash advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Dash wants to pass to mount but Spades is defending the position. Spades trying to control from the bottom.
Spades tries to get to full guard but Dash has control of the leg. Spades on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Spades tries to get out of the position. Spades might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Dash perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dash wants to pass the guard but Spades is defending well. Dash content to control rather than advance.
David Dash has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Spades moves into the clinch. Dash goes for a takedown attempt but Spades pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Spades shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Spades is looking to take a break and control but Dash is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are battling for position here. Dash manages to regain full guard. Nice work. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dash manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Spades manages to get himself to full guard.
Dash passes easily into side control. Nice work. Dash looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dash decides to stand up, so the ref orders Spades to his feet. Dash shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Spades defends it nicely. Ace Spades has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David Dash. Spades throws a head kick that misses. Spades bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Dash's head backwards. Spades throws a right and a left that both miss. Spades drives through with a takedown into Dash's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Spades trying to control but Dash is working from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Dash has his hands on Spades's head, controlling the position. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Dash gets caught flat footed, as Spades shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Dash managing to control the position. Dash had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Spades defends it easily. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but David Dash will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Spades is trying to control. Dash wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Dash slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Dash is pulling down on Spades's head. It's preventing any offense from Spades, at least for the moment.
