Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Andrei Ulmeyda! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Theo Evelein! The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Albert Achterberg and Nard Betker.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Evelein with a lazy takedown attempt so Ulmeyda counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Ulmeyda cracks Evelein with a solid left hand. Evelein is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ulmeyda is aware though and is defending well. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Ulmeyda chips away with some ground and pound. Evelein keeping moving, preventing Ulmeyda from controlling successfully. Ulmeyda scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Ulmeyda content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Evelein is trying to control the position but Ulmeyda postures up. Ulmeyda throws a big right hand that misses. Evelein not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ulmeyda distracts Evelein with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Evelein preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ulmeyda trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Ulmeyda with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Ulmeyda trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Ulmeyda tries to stand but Evelein is controlling from the bottom. Ulmeyda wants to control from the top but Evelein keeps moving. Evelein is looking for a triangle but Ulmeyda pushes his legs off easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ulmeyda cracks Evelein with a solid left hand. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Evelein is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ulmeyda is aware though and is defending well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ulmeyda wants to pass the guard but Evelein is keeping the position. Evelein has his feet on Ulmeyda's thighs here. He's pushed Ulmeyda off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Ulmeyda screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Theo Evelein! Theo Evelein spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
