Schmeizel kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Zorba the Greek. Esson has chosen Amy MacDonald - This Is The Life as his entrance music. Murray Esson has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Lerba Schmeizel's chin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Esson shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Esson is working for a submission of some sort.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Esson is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Schmeizel moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Esson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Schmeizel's guard.
Esson is trying to work for a kimura but Schmeizel is defending well.
Esson is trying to control the action in half guard but Schmeizel is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Esson is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Esson passes Schmeizel's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Schmeizel won't allow Esson to pass to mount.
Esson winds up and cracks Schmeizel with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Esson slips a nice elbow through Schmeizel's hands, connecting with Schmeizel's forehead.
Esson stops Schmeizel from getting back to his feet.

Esson wants to control but Schmeizel is keeping him busy.
Esson tries to pass the half guard into mount. Schmeizel knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Schmeizel has hold of Esson's hands but Esson slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Esson is working for a kimura but Schmeizel is defending it quite comfortably.

In his post fight interview, Murray Esson started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
