PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Caleb V (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Roc Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Roc Jr is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Pantera - I'm Broken. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jay Roc Jr!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Joseph Jones and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Roc Jr decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Roc Jr wants to free his trapped foot but V is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Roc Jr lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
V is trying to control but can't.
Roc Jr stops V from getting back to his feet.
V trying to control but Roc Jr postures up.
Roc Jr trying to control the pace.

Roc Jr escapes and gets back to his feet.
V with a poor takedown

and Roc Jr counters with a shoot takedown. V fights it but they end up in guard.

Roc Jr is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Roc Jr should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Roc Jr stands up and waves to V to follow him.
Roc Jr tries to clinch up but V circles away and keeps his distance.
V throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
V doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Roc Jr counters with a nice double leg into side control. V won't be happy with that.
V tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
V is breathing heavily.

Roc Jr putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
V is in a horrible position here. Roc Jr smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Let's hope that Roc Jr has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
V knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Roc Jr on the ground.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Roc Jr wants to take V's back but he can't do it this time.
Roc Jr lands a heavy elbow.
Roc Jr tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
V can't escape the position.
Roc Jr takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


V tries for a takedown but Roc Jr circles away easily

and Roc Jr counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Roc Jr is working V over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Roc Jr has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

V might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

V looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Roc Jr passes into half guard.
Roc Jr working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Roc Jr is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and V defends it well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

V is looking to regain half guard here but Roc Jr keeps moving and retains side control.
Roc Jr tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

V is looking to reverse the position.
V is working hard here to advance position.
You can see the frustration on V's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
V tries to get back to half guard but can't.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A nice inside leg kick there by V. That's going to slow Roc Jr down.

Roc Jr moves into the clinch successfully.

Roc Jr pulls guard.

V tries to stand but Roc Jr is controlling from the bottom.
Roc Jr is controlling V's posture.
V pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Roc Jr is keeping the position for now.

Roc Jr scrambles and gets back to his feet.

V misses with a takedown

and Roc Jr counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
V wants to get back to his feet but Roc Jr is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
V controls Roc Jr momentarily but Roc Jr frees himself.
Roc Jr stays in close to V's body and controls the position.

Roc Jr stands up from guard. Let's bang!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Roc Jr showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Roc Jr closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Roc Jr lands in his opponent's guard.

Roc Jr drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Roc Jr jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

V wants to sweep but no luck.

V is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
V is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Roc Jr is controlling him.
Roc Jr stays in close to V's body and controls the position.
Roc Jr takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

V preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
V wants to clinch.
Roc Jr throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
V tries to clinch up

and Roc Jr decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in V's guard.
V is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

V has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Roc Jr is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for V.
V is looking to regain half guard here but Roc Jr keeps moving and retains side control.

Roc Jr looks up at the clock and then as V takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Roc Jr smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
V is looking for a sweep.

Roc Jr decides to stand up, so the ref orders V to his feet.

Roc Jr has managed to clinch.

Roc Jr has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics V uses from the top position.
V trying to control but Roc Jr is working from the bottom.

Roc Jr is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
V is trying to break free.

V wants to get up but he can't break Roc Jr's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Roc Jr looking to hit a scissor sweep but V is one step ahead there.
Caleb V has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Roc Jr striking off his back but it's not causing V any problems.
