PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chance Taken (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jorge Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chance Taken!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jorge Cruz!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, George Francis and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cruz lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Cruz.
Taken scores with a jab.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cruz lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Taken instigates a clinch.

Cruz manages to break the clinch.
Cruz blocks a head kick by Taken.
Taken tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cruz swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Cruz throws out a leg kick but Taken moves out of range and Cruz only half commits.

Taken shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Taken throwing strikes here but Cruz is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Cruz is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Cruz wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Taken.

Taken throws some wild stikes that Cruz manages to avoid easily.
Cruz is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Taken has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Taken wants to control the pace but Cruz is squirming around nicely.

Cruz is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Cruz is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Taken trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Taken thowing shots but they're missing.

Cruz bucks Taken off and manages to get back to his feet!
Taken has a takedown stuffed.
Taken throws a right and a left that Cruz avoids nicely.
Cruz stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cruz wants it to stay on the feet.

Taken closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Cruz is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Taken has just dragged him back down to the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cruz is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Taken controls the position.
Cruz parries the strikes from Taken easily there. Taken is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Cruz to escape.
Taken working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Cruz is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Taken has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Taken throws an elbow but Cruz slips to the side and avoids it well.
Taken postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Taken wants to control but Cruz is keeping him busy.

Cruz is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Cruz is trying to buck Taken off.
Taken working the ground and pound.
Taken cracks Cruz with a big right hand but Cruz just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Cruz pushes Taken away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Taken gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

The ground and pound from Taken seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Taken tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Taken decides to stand back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chance Taken dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Taken tries for a takedown but Cruz sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Taken cracks Cruz with an open hand slap.
Cruz avoids the head kick by Taken.
Cruz lands an overhand right.
Cruz ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Taken moves away.
Taken tries to clinch but Cruz moves out of range.
Taken has a takedown stuffed.
Taken swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Cruz counters with a nice uppercut.
Taken misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Taken is trying hard to land a takedown here. Cruz sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chance Taken. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Cruz scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Cruz jabs Taken to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Taken waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Cruz.
Cruz throws a front kick that sends Taken stumbling back into the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cruz lands with a cross.
Cruz stuffs the takedown attempt from Taken. Taken gets slowly back to his feet.
Cruz scores with a hook to the body. Taken takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Nice uppercut lands for Cruz. That snapped Taken's head back.
Taken tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cruz swivels and escapes.
A cross from Cruz lands.
Cruz throws an overhand right that drops Taken like a sack of potatoes! Cruz dives in to finish the fight with more strikes and this one is all over!
